{advice and articles | the importance of failing}

As humans one of our greatest fears in life, whether we are willing to admit and acknowledge it or whether we know for certain if it is something we are afraid of, is failure. Deep down many of us strive for perfection or something so very close, even just happiness.

And too often we can be found guilty of setting these expectations and demands of ourselves that when they're not met we feel like everything has come tumbling down and we have nothing to offer the rest of the world. We are all here to make our mark in the world but sometimes we have to realise and accept that we can't get it right every single time.

The thing about failure is that it leads us to hate ourselves, our lives, our actions and our circumstance. When you've not quite achieved what it is you desire or you've found that you've crash and burned you blame yourself because you believe that you should've known and done better. Then follows regret. And then self-pity which is more often than not outweighed by self-resentment.

When it comes to failure we only see what we want to see and that's our mistakes and regrets. What you have to instead see is that without failure, you'd be further away from success. You need to encounter and experience doing something wrong and messing things up entirely for you to truly open your eyes, get yourself together and set yourself on the right track.

In life, not every moment is meant to go smoothly and as we envision. We ask a lot of ourselves at times and when we don't fulfill our own promises to ourselves things begin to fall apart. However, we are all human and part of our journey here on Earth is to live freely even if that means making mistakes and failing from time to time or endlessly.

Here are my 5 reasons as to why failing is important in our lives:

1. Failure reminds you of the need to set up a plan and follow it through
To set yourself goals, make a plan and simply be a dreamer is such an achievement within itself but there's no purpose in doing so if you don't seek out your potential. You must put it all into action and dedicate yourself whole-heartedly. If what you're pursuing is something that you are immensely passionate about or something you really want and need then you must understand that hard-work, dedication and sacrifice must be given. The beauty of success is earning it and overcoming all of the obstacles to get there. As they say, "nothing worth having comes easy."

2. Failure teaches you that you tried
If you know in your heart that you tried your best or tried till you couldn't possibly anymore then be at peace that you gave it your everything. Sometimes things in life don't work out or work within your favour and that's something everyone faces. Perhaps it's life's way of saying you're not ready or the timing or opportunity isn't right. However, this shouldn't dishearten you for all this means is that if this is something you really want and need then you need to keep trying and perhaps even start all over. Even if it's not what you initially had in mind that you need to pursue, take one step at a time and you'll eventually get to where you want and need to be.

3. Failure is often a big wake up call for you
In life we all make mistakes and have regrets but the beauty of it all is that we leave it all behind us and realise what we have to do from this point on. Maybe you messed up and didn't get it right the first time or many times following that but failing is a part of growing, learning and coming back stronger and wiser. In getting things wrong you gain a clearer idea of what to do right in the future. Sometimes you need to go down the wrong track to find greater direction in life. While you can be ever so hard and harsh on yourself for failing you need to be thankful for having this wake-up call which can lead you to changing your life, perspective, attitudes, actions and habits.

4. Failure is the greatest key to success
For so long, a belief that I've held onto is that no-one, and I mean absolutely no-one, who is in position of power, fame, success or wealth is where they are today without having ever failed in their life. Failure ultimately leads to success for life is about experimentation and tried and failed experiences. There really is no such thing as perfect and if you were to go along your life journey never or barely making mistakes then you leave yourself no room for growth and improvement. Sometimes failing shows you as long as you persist and hold onto your passion, success will await.

5. Failure is a part of life in everyone's life
We're all human. Who doesn't fail, make a mistake, mess up big-time or have regrets? We all do. Every single one of us. But that's what sets the achievers a part from the day-dreamers or those who dwell too hard on what went wrong. The achievers are those who acknowledge their failings but use that as a stepping stone to where they need and want to be. From failing you can only move forward onto greater things. Don't be too hard on yourself if you've made a few bad decisions for with every passing moment life is giving you the chance to redeem yourself. Fight back and prove to everyone that you won't let anything or anyone stop you from finding happiness and success in life.

At the end of the day you need to see failing in life as a blessing and a reminder that the journey towards success will be worth it in the end.
